In Greek Mythology a phoenix is a bird that is born again by arising from the ashes of its predecessor and when I was painting it back in 2011 my sister had recently lost her husband and was left to raise two teenage boys on her own. This painting was inspired by her courage, dignity and humour.
The original painting was a finalist in the 2012 Gainsborough Green Art Awards and is now sold.
