BALLOON SERIES: WORLDS WITHIN

I began painting umbrellas during a time of profound loss with the death of my father and my mother's Motor Neuron Disease diagnosis. It was a subconscious acknowledgement of my need for protection from all the pain that was unfolding, and while grief never goes away, the sharpest edges have softened with time. The recent transition from umbrella to balloon captures a shift towards something lighter. As my son beautifully described it, it is like a butterfly emerging from her chrysalis.
